Sunday's Teacher Feature: Spooky Fun!

Obviously, this year isn't an ideal year for too much, but we are teachers and we know how to make the best of any situation! Celebrating Halloween can still be plenty of fun even during a pandemic. In fact, this might be the year to focus less on candy and costumes and more on how to incorporate Halloween fun throughout the day. So, this week we found three spooktacular ideas that we thought might help to get you on the right haunted path.

Our first find comes from @phonicsfamily. They have created such a fun spelling web that any student, any age will enjoy! All you need to do is draw a web outline and write letters at the end of each spindle. You say a word and the student can use their finger, a fake finger, or even a spider ring to bop to each letter in the word. If you have students that are just learning, @phonicsfamily suggests providing the sound and having students find the letters. Love! Love! Love! If you're still reading, then you must not be too scared yet! Our next Teacher Feature comes from Taylor Gunn (@funwithmrsgunn). If you are anything like me, then you absolutely love cross-curricular lessons. Well, @funwithmrsgunn has just what you are looking for this Halloween. She created a texture monster that her students painted. She also had them complete a little paragraph about the monster focusing on the number of items used in their designs. For older students, you might have them actually write a complete paragraph about the monster including numbers and adjectives. I mean, how fun! Finally, we hit the jackpot with another cross-curricular find from Michelle Griffo (@applesandabcs). Michelle took the story  The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano and applied it to a math lesson on shapes. She suggests having students draw shapes with chalk outside, find "shape videos" on YouTube, and complete the Spookley Flip Book that she created. You can almost plan a whole day's worth of activities from just this one book! I know you'll want to give @applesandabcs a follow so here is the link: https://www.instagram.com/applesandabcs/

We hope you enjoyed this edition of Teacher Feature! Happy Halloween season! If you are looking for something in particular, please feel free to reach out to us on Instagram (@lessonplantoolbox) and we're happy to do the searching for you! Have a spooky great Sunday!
