Building Your Toolbox for Online Learning: Part 1

My favorite "Back-to-School" commercial is the Staples commercial with the song "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" playing in the background while the parents excitedly fill the shopping cart. Well, this year we all know "Back-to-School" is going to look quite different. Our school was giving families the choice of returning in-person or learning online, but we just found out that the county health department is strongly encouraging distance learning. We are educators! We will roll with this and it will all be okay because that's what we do! I decided to focus my blogs for the next couple of weeks on helpful tools for online learning. I hope you find this helpful and check out the resources provided by these wonderful educators!

Item #1: Virtual Back to School Scavenger Hunt

I mean, how clever is this? This scavenger hunt covers all of the basics so you will know if your students are ready to learn online. If anything is missing, then you can speak with the families and let them know what they need to do to be ready for a successful school year. @primaryplayground has so many other AMAZING scavenger hunts that I think primary educators will find quite useful. Here is her link so you can explore for yourself:

Item #2: Social Stories 4 Kids

This is a wonderful site that offers six FREE resources on helping students transition back to school with all of the new parameters in place. There are also many other useful digital stories about a variety of topics such as being kind, managing energy, and handling change. Here is the link so you can gather your resources:

 Item #3: Collaborative Classroom

If you are looking for a resource on how to begin classroom meetings this year, then you want to check out:

https://www.collaborativeclassroom.org.

This organization has divided reconnecting and rebuilding classroom rapport into appropriate grade levels for K-6. They offer different prompts and questions to help get the conversations started. Best of all, the Collaborative Classroom’s new Reconnecting and Rebuilding Toolkit is absolutely FREE! How great is that? Simply click on the link above, scroll down a bit, and download your FREE resource!

Please feel free to send me a DM @lessonplantoolbox if you are looking for a specific resource. I guarantee it is out there somewhere and I’m happy to help you find it. Remember to keep building your Lesson Plan Toolbox!
