Valentine's Day Fun ~ Sunday Teacher's Feature (23)

Here we are in the midst in of winter during a pandemic and we need something to look forward to during school. Well, we have just what you are looking for to help you out of that slump. Let's start thinking about Valentine's Day because let's face it, this world needs as much love as we can give right now. We tracked down some fun-loving teachers with some fun-loving ideas that your students will literally LOVE.

Our first Valentine's Day find comes from Elyse at Proud to be Primary. Elyse has a website full of ideas that are FREE and you can easily incorporate into your classroom. Our focus is going to be on her Valentine's Day STEAM activities which will have your students engaged from beginning to end. Elyse has ideas from making cupcakes graphs, heart marshmallow toothpick structures, noodle garland, and even tissue paper heart designs. There is truly something for everyone in your class and the materials are low prep. Who doesn't love a lesson that is low prep high yield, especially when you can easily incorporate your standards. Be sure to check out Elyse's website: Proud to be Primary.

Our next stop is going to be from Christina at Mrs. Winter's Bliss and this is yet another website packed with Valentine's Day resources. What is super fun about Christina's site is that she has plenty of Valentine's Day songs linked right there on her page. You can literally take brain breaks throughout your day and you would have everything you need in one spot. Beyond this she also has writing activities, games, and plenty of crafts that you can build into your day. Whether you are remote teaching or teaching in-person there is something for everyone! We know you are going to want to head over to this page so here is the link you will need: Mrs. Winter's Bliss.

The last idea we are going to offer for Valentine's Day fun activities is one that we've used in our classrooms for the past few years. You actually need to do some prep work right about now so it will be ready to go for Valentine's Day. All you do is draw a large heart on a big piece of construction paper. Type up a letter to adults at home instructing them that this is the child's Valentine heart and he/she is going to ask as many people as he/she can to write what they love most about the student. Finally, students can decorate, cut it out and return the heart to school by February 1. As students return them, laminate them and hang them on your bulletin board. Throughout the month we read what our loved ones love about us. My students absolutely loved this activity. Yes, you have to prep now, but you will have a bulletin board all set for February and a great way to build community throughout February.

There are so many ways to celebrate Valentine's Day while incorporating curriculum. This is a great way to break up the monotonous days that winter can create. If you need any other ideas, then please feel free to reach out to us on Instagram (@lessonplantoolbox) or email ([email protected]) and we are happy to help. Happy planning!
