Teacher Feature Sunday: Volume 13 (Thanksgiving Fun)

I know! I know! I blogged about Thanksgiving ideas last week, but I found so many I couldn't resist doing another blog with NEW ideas! Today we are going to look at little something for everybody from thankful thoughts to Noun Turkeys to a fine motor activity. So get comfy and cozy, find a relaxing spot, and give this blog a whirl! We hope enjoy these resources and find them useful!

First up are these absolutely adorable Noun Turkeys from Kim Bos (@educatelikeabos). Kim had her first graders learning about nouns and then had them create these Noun Turkeys as a review of things they are thankful for. The students had so much fun thinking of ideas! You could easily adapt this activity to fit whatever subject you might be learning, but nouns are a great way to teach thankfulness! Here is Kim's link so you can give it a look and a follow: https://www.instagram.com/educatelikeabos/

The next activity we found and had to share is a fine motor activity from Mrs. Pounds (@learningbythepound). She took mini pumpkins and had her students put rubber bands around them and then take them off again. This is such a great way to teach fine motor skills especially in the older primary grades where students don't always want to put the time in to practice these skills. In the younger grades, you might do this at a center with the teacher or aide assisting students as needed. In fact, you might even invite virtual learners to try this at home if you allow enough time for parents to get a hold of a mini pumpkin. Head to this link so you can see the many more ideas: https://www.instagram.com/learningbythepound/

Finally, this last idea is one that you can find throughout our school building. Teachers and/or families took a pumpkin and took turns writing on it what they are all thankful for. This is a great activity to build classroom community! The idea is to try to cover the WHOLE pumpkin. Depending on how challenging you want to make, would determine the size of the pumpkin you would want to buy. You could even do this activity before or after the Noun Turkeys to help students to start to brainstorm ideas. How fun!

We hope you found these ideas useful. Be sure to check back each Sunday so we can help you build your Lesson Plan Toolbox!
