Teacher Wellness Check-In ~ Sunday Teacher's Feature

teacher self-care Jan 31, 2021

If you have been around here for awhile, then you know that Sundays are reserved for our teachers. You have an incredibly important job and we need you in a proper mindset. So while most Sundays when you read this blog you will find resources you can use in the classroom, once a month we are going to focus on your mindset, well-being and self-care. For the most part we do this on the last Sunday of each month so you can set intentions for the following month. We truly hope this helps with any stress or anxiety you may be feeling.

So right now, while you are reading this, check-in with yourself. How are you feeling? What are your thoughts and feelings towards school? If they make you happy, what part makes you happy. If you have have negative thoughts, what can you change to prevent this in the future?

How are things at home? Are you finding time in the evenings and on the weekends to spend with your families and friends? Are you finding it difficult to manage the demands both at-home and at-school? If it is difficult, is there anything you can do on the weekends to get ahead for the week? Perhaps make one meal for dinner but make enough that you can have it for leftovers. In our house, Thursdays are usually leftover night. By doing this, you will now have two nights during the week where you don't have to worry about the infamous question, "What's for dinner?"

Above all of these things, are you taking time for you? I cannot stress enough how important self-care is especially this year. For the month of February let's focus on the self-care habit of sleep. Sleeping is so beneficial for your not only your mental health, but your physical health too. Just the simple act of getting plenty of rest can impact so many other areas of your life. Trust me I know how easy it is to sacrifice sleep to get more things done in your day, but for the month of February we're going to stop sacrificing. In education, there will ALWAYS be something to do so as educators we need to set boundaries. Let's set those boundaries. Let's make this happen.

I truly hope you are doing well both in your family life and in your career. I hope that you found this post to be beneficial and took the time to reflect on your current state. If you need to make changes but you are not sure what to do, then start small. You will be amazed at how effective these small changes can be in your life.
